Scottish Widows are reporting this week in the news that many women are not considering Pensions on divorce. In fact, only 1 in 10 are claiming a fair share. This could be down to the complexities of the Pension, but many are missing out on a large proportion of the matrimonial assets. Other reasons could be down to the fact that one party does not realise the value of the Pension rights and that fact that they could be entitled to up to 50% of that Pension.
The future result of not considering the Pensions as part of the matrimonial settlement could mean that a husband or wife is not prepared for retirement and missing out on a potential income stream in retirement.
